Crafting is an art in itself that requires continual honing and sharpening of skill. Crocheting is no different, and in this design meant for beginners, even I learned something I should’ve known for years.

Once you’ve finished with your third round and the design starts to appear decidedly star-like, it’s important to not begin the next round in the next available stitch, but the one after that. I had been connecting my rows in the next stitch after completion until then and then wondered how I could be so bad at math that my count was always off, when I was actually just watching the wrong tutorials from people who assumed this was common knowledge. After this, you’re free to continue with the same routine, adding 2 to the amount of double crochets on each slope. This row will have 4 on each side of the point of the star, the next will have 6, the next will have 8, etc. I ended my project at 26, and it’s still relatively small.
