This is the most helpful tutorial I have found for the crescent moon square. There are, however, a few things I did differently to help the design stand out more.
Instead of starting to create the square effect once you finish the moon,

do a single crochet in the back loops of every white stitch, then a half double crochet once you reach color A’s stitches. This will make the design both more aesthetically rounded and stand out better.
Be mindful of where you start your square. If your chosen pattern calls for your work to be placed in a diamond pattern, your work might look crooked if you begin in the place the video instructs instead of between the two points of the moon.
